In the Lure of the Mer, mermaids have tails and mermen do not. Mer must not have sex with humans or else they will form an unbreakable bond and give up their immortality. But there is a loophole… if a second mer joins in. In this saucy series, brothers Trent and Erik have their willpower tested when they meet exceptional women.

But when she’s hooked in the process, roughed up, thrown overboard, and left for the sharks, she expects to die. She doesn’t expect to be rescued by a mysterious stranger — a very attractive, mysterious stranger — and taken to his underwater lair for a very special (and very erotic) magical lifesaving treatment. She can’t stop thinking about him… and he seems privy to her every filthy thought.
tw: brief attempted rape, abuse, bloody injuries
It seems I can’t turn this mental connection off, so either you are going to have to stop thinking about sex, or I’m going to have to stop you.”
My Review:
Hook is a treat, filled with gorgeous underwater descriptions of the Great Barrier Reef and the creatures that dwell within, and off-the-charts chemistry between Jayde and Trent. Jayde won my heart when she selflessly saved the dolphin calf, and she certainly attracted Trent’s attention. I loved that despite his brother’s warnings, he just can’t help himself in Jayde’s presence. It’s also fascinating that while mer can’t usually hear human thoughts, Jayde’s come through loud and clear. The UST (and RST) is scorching, and I’m so impressed with how the smut was worked into the main plot. I also love how Jayde is a curvy woman and Trent can’t resist those curves…
Book 2: Line
🥭🥭🥭🥭
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
(you can find my rating and spice system here)
POV & Tense: Dual POV, third person limited, past tense.
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Erotic Romance, Novella-length
Tropes/Themes: It’s supposed to be a one-off, Sexy Lifeguards, Mythology, Touch her and die, Telepathy, M/F/M subplot, Sexy cat dad,
Location: Queensland, Australia
Synopsis:
When Krissy moves up the coast hoping for a fresh start, she steps out of her comfort zone and has a no-strings-attached encounter with a handsome lifeguard. It’s unlike her, and she has no plans to see him again—better to keep it simple and not get attached (her attachments have burned her in the past). But he keeps showing up when least expected, defending her from handsy bar patrons, and before long, their one-off becomes two and then three… How can she resist a man who is kind to her cat, and has rescues of his own? When he introduces her to his equally handsome cousin, she opens up and explores her kinky side, one her domineering ex never let her explore.
Why had she ever thought she needed to ban this pleasure in order to retain her sense of self?”
My Review:
While most of Hook was underwater, Line is set mostly on land with gorgeous descriptions of the Queensland coast, from its plentiful mango trees to the chirping of rainbow lorikeets. The attraction between Erik and Krissy is just as spicy as Trent and Jayde, although the dynamic is different. The M/M/F is smoking (you may need a fire extinguisher). I love that we get to meet more of the mer relations, and the mystery that begins in the first book is continued in this one. I felt so much for Krissy, for what she’s been through, and her determination to stand on her own two feet.
Final Thoughts:
Honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed these two books. Although the mystery isn’t wrapped up (I see the potential for another book (and I wouldn’t say no to some F/F romance…)), these are satisfying reads and the romantic storyline is completed in each novella. I love that these are set in Australia. It’s so satisfying to travel to a new location via book and get lost in the story.
